How the canada business days calculator works
Business-day questions depend on more than weekdays. This calculator makes the selected calendar, endpoint rules, and custom exclusions visible instead of implying that one holiday list applies to every Canadian deadline.
Calculation method
The tool walks date-only values one calendar day at a time, excludes Saturdays and Sundays, then excludes weekdays on the selected 2026 federal or Canada Revenue Agency public-holiday list. Custom YYYY-MM-DD dates are merged into that exclusion set.
Business days = included calendar dates − weekend dates − selected holiday weekdays − custom holiday weekdays.Assumptions and counting rules
- Built-in holiday presets contain the published calendar dates for 2026 only.
- A holiday that falls on a weekend is counted as a weekend, not double-counted.
- Substitute days, provincial employment standards, court closures, banking days, and organization-specific schedules are not inferred.
Practical examples
Count a work week
Monday through Friday is five business days when both endpoints are included and there is no selected holiday.
Useful for a plain weekday interval.
Add ten business days
Starting Friday, August 7, 2026 without counting the start date produces Friday, August 21 under Weekdays only.
Holiday presets can change the result.
Add a custom closure
Enter 2026-08-17 to exclude that Monday in addition to weekends and the selected preset.
Useful for an office-specific closure.
Common mistakes
- Treating all Canadian statutory-holiday rules as one national calendar.
- Forgetting whether the start or end date is included.
- Using an observed or substitute day without confirming the rule that governs the deadline.
Edge cases
- Built-in presets reject dates outside 2026 rather than guessing future holidays.
- Weekdays only can be used outside 2026 with custom dates.
- A custom holiday on a weekend does not remove an additional weekday.
